Are the bugs taking over?

During the last few years the amount of insects that have become resistant to pesticides has increased and are still increasing.

*The first pesticide was elemental sulfur dusting, soon toxic chemicals such as Arsenic, Mercury, and Lead were being added. Then they started adding Nicotine from tobacco, and so on.. *

The first time the case of resistance showed was in the early 1900’s, when the effectiveness of Lime Sulfur to kill San Jose scale (an insect that damages fruit trees and fruit-bearing plants. ) was gone.

Through generations and generations pests are adapting to changes in their environment.
More pests are becoming resistant to pesticides everyday!
They will survive a pesticide application and the resistant traits will appear stronger in the next generation than it did in the previous.

Examples of resistant insects we see everyday are:
The Housefly, Mosquito, Cockroach, Ticks... Etc...
Not long ago, the pests would die with a single spray of piff paff. But not anymore, these days we have to spray piff paff on them a dozen times until they die.

It seems that insects have the ability to develop resistance to virtually anything that kills them.

Every year scientists are making even stronger pesticides to kill those annoying little pests..

we fear that a day would come when it wouldn’t kill just insects, but it would kill us too!

Ramadhan Kareem.

Picture

Ramadhan… A chance to improve spiritually… A chance to get closer to Allah.

1st Person: I'm going to fast in Ramadhan!!
2nd Person: I'm going to pray in Ramadhan!!

^As ironic as that sounds, I actually did hear that from some people.

The in-mate meeting with the dean.

Picture

Today was a very tiring day.
We had a meeting with the principal.. It was supposed to be a 2 hour meeting, but soon turned into a five hour meeting - 10 min. break.
And I was chosen to translate everything he says to the teachers who don’t understand Arabic. It was kind of fun, the teachers were very sarcastic.. Hilarious.

The one I called Mr. Andrews was very nice.

Mr. A: Umm, call me Mr. Andy.. It’s much easier.
Me: Well it’s okay, I find your name easy to pronounce..
Mr. A: People who don’t know how to pronounce my name call me Mr. Andy..
Me: Oh alright.. But it’s okay.. I’ll call you Mr. Andrews.. I don’t find any difficulties in pronouncing your name.
Mr. A: Umm alright..
I thought the way he kept repeating his name to me whenever I call him was strange, but then I found out that his name wasn’t Mr. Andrews.. It was Mr. AndrĂ©a..
No wonder.

They talked about many things, explained them and gave examples. When talking about our education they resembled it to food. They said: Education is like food, if you eat a lot, you get sick, and if you don’t eat enough, you won’t get the necessary vitamins your body needs.

I got a headache because of that meeting.. But it wasn't that bad.
The good thing is I missed the Arabic lesson..!

Anyway, I’m off to study.

Meow!

This is my cat Whiskers.

Or you can call him Black, Lucky, Pushi, Tiger, Fluffy, Spike, or even Spot.. Take your pick..
Yes, that black and white cat has 8 names, or even more!
Somehow everyone that sees this cat has to give it a different name.
His latest name was Satan, which really suits him.

That’s him after attacking my feet.. For some reason he hates feet, he attacks any foot he sees before him :

This is him trying to steal my sock.. lol.. :

Some of you might say he’s cute.. Don’t let the looks fool you.. He’s the devil.

First Day..

Picture

Today was my first day of school as a tenth grader.
I reached to school late, saw my friends and discovered that most of my favorite teachers weren't there. The principal gave this long speech and after that we were introduced to our new teachers. I got new Arabic, Physics, Chemistry, Art, Music, and S.ST teachers..
I met the Physics, S.ST, and Art teachers.. They're not bad.

There weren’t any new students in my class. I hate that.. No one to pick on.
Anyway, the head of the English Department came to our class and explained what we we're going to do this year. We're starting SATs.. We were supposed to choose the subjects we wanted to study this year and study them only, I was happy cause I won't have to take all the boring subjects I don't want, but the principal just thought it wasn't a good idea to do that this year..
Ah well.. Just have to wait one more year.

Our Science subjects were separated at last, Thank God.. The past years we took Biology, Chemistry, and Physics together.. In one book.. Them separated would be easier for me.. I won't have to write the three in a examination paper all together anymore.
Math will be different this year too.. We'll have four different Math books.
And Social Studies, we're not having Social Studies in Arabic anymore! Wohoo!
My Math teacher will teach us Social Studies as well.

We're going to write PreSAT in January, then we'll write SAT 1 in May. I'll have to study harder this year.. That means no more 4 hours a day internet. :(

A couple of teachers came up to me today and asked to buy one of my paintings.. ( Drawing is one of my hobbies ) That's just great! My paintings are worth buying! :D I'll earn money for doing something I enjoy.. I hope I'll be able to reach the amount of money needed to get the laptop of my dreams.
